Its row of brightly coloured houses curves along Catalan Bay on the east coast of Gibraltar, overlooking yellow sands dotted with small fishing boats and the gleam of blue that is the sparkling Mediterranean.
A unique and prestigious residential estate, Little Genoa makes the most of its location in the historic Catalan Bay area. A small village originally settled by Genoese fishermen in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Catalan Bay has its own unique character and still retains the sense of being a fishing village, where some families are descended directly from those original Genoese settlers.
Within this village setting, Little Genoa itself also has a unique character, the designs, layout and façades of the houses varied. It also lies on the main road towards the city centre to the north and the iconic Europa Point to the south, yet once within its ambit, secured by a door entry system with CCTV monitoring, it is easy to escape the sounds and sights of city life.
The beach at Catalan Bay is the second largest sandy beach in Gibraltar, popular with local residents during summer months. The locality is home to the luxurious Caleta Hotel and to a number of restaurants, some specialising in local seafood.
For those who enjoy outdoor sports other than the water sports that can be enjoyed on the beach, Little Genoa is the perfect base to access the many sporting opportunities in Gibraltar. The Victoria Sports Complex, itself home to the hugely popular Gibraltar Music Festival, is only 15 minutes walk away from Little Genoa, or a few minutes' drive.
Ease of access to the city centre brings many activities as well as sports within easy reach dance societies, martial arts societies, fine art groups, social clubs, youth groups among many others abound in Gibraltar.
For those who enjoy nature and the outdoors, the open spaces of Europa Point are a 5-minute drive away, while those keen on a challenge will enjoy the walks up into the Rock or the historic sites, or undertake the climb up the Mediterranean Steps, the start of which can be found just a 20-minute drive away on the west side of the Rock. Access to the cable car for easier access to the top of the Rock is a 15-minute drive or bus ride away, for example.
Keen sailors or those wanting to learn will find that also just 15 minutes drive from Little Genoa is situated the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club, itself with a superbly set restaurant and club facilities which include an open air pool by the edge of the sea. Another popular location for local sports enthusiasts are the rowing clubs, just 2 minutes walk away from this.
